The Central softball team was on the right and wrong end of a shutout yesterday down in Tucson, Arizona. The Dutch were shutout by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 7 – 0 but came back to win the nightcap 11 – 0 over Augsburg of Minnesota. Central softball is now 6 – 3 on the year. The Dutch men lost the first game of their doubleheader with Marian, 14 – 7; their opponents used an eight-run sixth inning to blow the game open. Jordan Judkins was 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot with two RBI’s, and Robbie Rushing also contributed three hits from the DH spot. Central turned things around and won 8 – 5 in the second game, but had to work for the victory. The Dutch were down 5 – 0 after three innings, but exploded for six in the fifth, thanks to four consecutive hits to begin the inning and two triples in the frame. Central baseball is now 7 – 3 overall and they’ll play just one game today at noon against Hamline, while the women play La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer from California for their two games.
