Dutch Women Struggled to Find Rhythm Without Full Team

What started out as a very promising season, perhaps ended a little disappointingly for the Central women’s basketball team. They got off to the hottest start in program history, grabbing six wins in as many games in their non-conference schedule, and finished with an 8 – 3 mark going into league play. However, an injury and an overseas trip took away the majority of the depth the Dutch featured offensively. Kaitlin Stump played in just 11 games after injuring herself in the team’s Puerto Rico trip in late December. She averaged nearly ten points per game for Central during her time on the squad. Bri Pierce was Central’s post player who averaged five points and five rebounds per contest before travelling overseas with Central Abroad. Coach Chelsea Petersen says it was tough to replace both players’ production, but the difficulty was intensified because of the rhythm that’s lost when you lose two key players in the line-up. The Dutch finished seventh in the conference with a 3 – 11 overall record, and lose Hillary Beaird, Courtney Kelderman, Jessy Stika and Carly Stratbucker off their varsity squad.
