Ending their 2013 part of the schedule with a tough stretch of games, not much seemed to be clicking for the Pella High girls’ basketball team. They started the season with a blazing hot offense that averaged 65 points per game en route to a 4 – 2 record. However, the Lady Dutch would falter towards the end, getting crushed by Bondurant-Farrar 71 – 39 and lost to Grinnell, 42 – 33 to finish with a 4 – 4 record going into the holiday break. Of those four losses, three of the teams (Ballard, Dallas Center-Grimes, and the Bluejays) ended up at the state tournament last week. However, the loss to the Bluejays really was a sore spot, says Coach Jerod Garland, because of how his girls played. He also stresses that it was an eye-opening loss for the team. The Lady Dutch would win 11 of their last 13 regular season games, and make it all the way to the regional semifinals where they dropped to Ballard.
