After months of slow, but steady progress, the latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows that nearly ten percent of the state has shifted out of the abnormally dry distinction. The upside is that nearly two percent is no longer suffering any drought conditions, however, approximately eight percent now falls in the moderate drought category. Jasper, Marion, and western Mahaska county remain in the moderate category, while the eastern half of Mahaska is still suffering severe drought.
