Spring starts March 20, but record-breaking cold still has a grip on Marion County. The National Weather Service says the average high temperature for our area this time of year is in the low 40s. The record low for Monday was four below and we doubled that, with an official low temp of 8 below. Harry Hillaker, State Climatologist with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, says we do have warmer weather coming, but still not what would be considered the norm for this time of year. He says there will be another little setback this weekend, with a high on Saturday forecast at just 32, and he says it’s still forecast to be below normal in the next two weeks, though not nearly as cold as we have seen recently.
