The Pella Community Schools Business Manager Roger Dewaard tells KNIA/KRLS News that during Monday’s work session, the district set their certified budget for the upcoming year. He says that school finances have an interesting process because the state gives you a certain amount of money per student, which is based on enrollment, and then each district has to create a budget based on their statutory maximum. DeWaard adds that it will ultimately be connected to what gets funded next year, but the main purpose of this process is to set a spending ceiling so that the budget is covered by the amount the school will receive from state aid and property taxes.
