On the court for one final time, Pella Christian and Knoxville has local athletes and coaches on the same all-star squad for today’s Iowa Basketball Coaches Association 2014 All-Star Game. Boys’ and girls’ teams comprised of two athletes voted from each class will play at least two games today against other area all-stars. Coaches for the Southeast Iowa Girls’ team are from our area: from the Eagles, Kevin Van Maanen and from Knoxville, Jim Uitermarkt. Senior Lauren Jungling was selected to the all-star team and will try to lead her team to the championship game. Coach Van Maanen says it’s a pretty special honor to be picked to coach such a talent-filled team.
He adds the main goal of the games is to go out and have fun “one last time.” All of the festivities take place at Dallas Center-Grimes high school, and the first games are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
