The howling wind and constant drizzle wasn’t enough to slow down the Pella Christian boys’ soccer team last night, as they prevailed over PCM, 5 – 1 in each team’s season opener. The Eagles grabbed a quick 2 – 0 lead in the first half thanks to the first of three John Admiraal goals and a self-goal mistake by the Mustangs. Carson King found the back of the net at the 52’ mark to close the gap, but Admiraal and Jake DeRuiter combined for the next three goals to put the game away. Eagles’ coach, Gerrit Brouwer says that the win was a good measuring stick for his team for the rest of the season. PCM coach, Darin Telfer concurs that it was indeed a fact-finding mission for he and his team. DeRuiter also had two assists for the Eagles who begin the season 1 – 0, while the Mustangs drop to 0 – 1. The Eagles play Albia next on Monday while the Mustangs are at Newton tomorrow morning.
