Championship teams, or at the very least, very good teams always find ways to put themselves in a position to win games. That’s what has happened the last two nights for the Central softball team. Down 8 – 3 going into the bottom of the seventh to powerhouse Wisconsin – Eau Claire, a Sarah Bowen three-run jack tied the game up and sent the contest into extras where, after a scoreless top half of the eighth, the Dutch were able to take advantage of an error with a Whitney Sowers walk-off single to win 9 – 8. The momentum of the comeback seemed to be extra wind at their backs, as Central breezed by Eau Claire, 8 – 0 in five innings in game two. Mallory Schulenberg pitched a three-hit shutout to improve her record to 7 – 3. Central’s softball team is now 18 – 4, and they’ll open up Iowa Conference play tomorrow on the road against Luther at 3:00 p.m.
