Much like the second game of the doubleheader last week, Central took advantage of several Simpson errors, nine to be exact, to sweep the baseball doubleheader and the season series last night in Indianola. Central won game one 9 – 1, thanks to Robbie Rushing going the full seven innings, giving up just one run on five hits. The Storm committed five errors in the game, and Zach Brown and Jake Effron each drove in two runs apiece. Game two was a tightly contested affair. The Dutch drove in two runs in the first, but two errors in the middle innings allowed the Storm to take a 3 – 2 lead. Simpson held that until the eighth when another error allowed Central to tie it up. After a lead-off strikeout in the ninth, Michael Reuter reached on yet another mistake by the Storm, then pinch-runner Andy Carr made it all the way to third on a failed pick-off attempt. Jordan Judkins came up next and got the job done. His sacrifice fly made it 4 – 3, and relief pitcher, Mack Boothe closed the game down in the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning. Boothe pitched five innings in relief of Judson McKown, and gave up two runs on just three hits while striking out six. Central improves to 13 – 10 overall and 5 – 7 in league play. After playing six games in three days, Central will get a break until Friday when they host Luther for their first home conference series of the season.
