Central’s baseball team didn’t score many runs on Saturday, but still earned a split in the final two games with Loras. The Dutch dropped game one, 6 – 1. They got out to an early 1 – 0, but missed several chances for a big inning. Central had the bases loaded with just one out, and could only manage an RBI groundout from Grant Seuferer. In total, Central had nine hits on the game and stranded five runners. Game two started the same, with a 1 – 0 lead for Central after the first frame. They added runs in the third, fourth and fifth to take a 4 – 1 lead and hold on for the victory. Dutch pitcher Matt Schissel was lights out on the mound, giving up just one run on three hits in eight innings of work, with one of those hits being a home run in the third inning. Central is now 23 – 12 overall and 15 – 9 in league play, and they remain two games ahead of Loras for third place in the Iowa Conference. Central is three games behind Buena Vista in first place, and just two behind Wartburg for second. It just so happens the Dutch play the Knights this Friday and Saturday to conclude their regular season. If Central wins the series, they will clinch a first-round bye in the league tournament.
