Three Pella students were recognized yesterday morning through Character Counts. Middle schoolers Kara Wichhart and Aaron Born received $50 to donate to the charity of their choice, while high schooler Cody DeKruyff collected a $250 scholarship. Pella Director of Instruction Lowell Ernst tells KNIA/KRLS that Character Counts tries to focus on the elements of character that we want people to exhibit such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, and citizenship, traits that people can agree on regardless of background or religion. Ernst says that this is harder to teach adults than children, who seem to have character slip away slowly, while children take to new things quite easily.
