Today marks the final day of play in the 2014 Iowa Conference softball season, and Central College travels to Dubuque to take on the Spartans. While the Dutch are still mathematically alive to win the league crown, the fact that first place Coe plays last place Wartburg means that Central is realistically playing for 2nd place today, a position they currently share with Luther, Simpson and Dubuque. Dutch Coach George Wares says that for casual fans who are expecting an easy sweep, it’s not going to be quite so easy against this year’s version of the Spartans. Game time is 2:00 today in Dubuque. Central can clinch at least a tie for second place in the Iowa Conference with a sweep today, and if they’re swept by the Spartans, the Dutch could fall to as low as fifth in the league. The Iowa Conference tournament will be held next Thursday through Saturday at the site of the league’s regular season champion, and again, the likely location is Cedar Rapids at Coe College.
