Iowa State Patrol Trooper Doug Cutts has a recommendation for everyone that is behind the wheel of a vehicle, or who owns a cell phone. He says when you are driving, if you have to make a phone call or send a text message, pull over. Or, he says, if you’re on the interstate – where it is illegal to pull over unless you’re broke down – pull off, make the call or send the message, and then get back on the interstate. He acknowledges that he also carries a phone for work, but sometimes it’s necessary to just put it down and get away from the phone. It is not necessary to be connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
