Gladys Black, who was adored by many in the Midwest and known as “Iowa’s Bird Lady,” will have her legacy recounted by Larry Stone, who knew and worked with Black. Her newspaper columns featured folksy anecdotes, and she always had the same focus: protect our birds and their environment. Pella Public Library Director Wendy Street tells KNIA/KRLS News that the program featuring Stone will be held Tuesday at 7pm inside the Pella Public Library. She says that because Black was a pioneer for conservation in Iowa, it made sense to hold the event on Earth Day. Stone will also make an appearance at the Knoxville Public Library on May 15th from 6:30pm to 8pm. Both talks are free and open to the public.
