The Knoxville School Board this week approved a request to support a Committee for the Performing Arts. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack tells KNIA KRLS News that the committee, made up of Pennie Sommar, David Hoke and Dr. Bob Leonard has taken an interest in organizing a concert series of top-notch professional artists to perform, and have worked with Knoxville chorus teachers Megan Phillips and Jackie Duffy to promote the events that have come to Knoxville. Dr. Flack says the Board also approved an agreement with a consultant to secure future acts for the Center, and part of the goal is for performers to also host some educational opportunities such as meeting with band or chorus students, or putting on an assembly for the entire student body.
