The High Five program is an initiative put forth from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholt tells KNIA KRLS News that it’s a selection of five Iowa counties that have had a high number of major accidents including fatalities, and not as much seat belt use as law enforcement would like to see. Sheriff Sandholt says the program combines education, enforcement and engineering, which will help to identify areas in Marion County where accidents are more prevalent. He says using these three components, the trouble spots can be fixed, by adding rumble strips or signage, with the ultimate goal of reducing accidents and fatalities in the county.
