The Blue Oval of Drake Stadium will welcome high school track and field athletes for the first time in 2014 today. Pella High had 11 events qualify for state, including eight from the Lady Dutch. PCM’s girls’ track team had three events make it and will run tomorrow. Field events take center stage for the Lady Dutch: Becky Visser will compete in the high jump, trying to earn herself a medal amongst competition from all classes. Visser says it’s an honor to compete at the Drake Relays, but she’d much rather contend for the high jump at another stadium. The girls’ high jump is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
