Coach Mark Howard said defense would be a big part of the Pella High girls’ soccer team’s success this season, and it was in full display once again last night, not allowing a single shot on goal in a 5 – 0 win over Fairfield. Katie Vander Molen scored the game’s first two goals, then added an assist on an Emma Thoreson later on in the first half. The Lady Dutch are 2 – 0 and they’ll host tournament action tomorrow. The Little Dutch were aided by four goals from Anthony Bentzinger in a 7 – 2 defeat of the Trojans. Fairfield scored the game’s first goal, before Pella settled in to score the next seven. The Pella boys are 3 – 0 on the year, and will next play in an invitational tournament on Saturday in Des Moines.
