Three Knoxville 5th graders won awards from the University of Iowa recently, for their efforts in the Invent Iowa competition. The program is coordinated locally by Knoxville Talented and Gifted teacher Jean Brandt. Brandt says each group submitted a DVD to the judges, and from that point, the ones that were chosen went on the state competition in Iowa City. Brady Pearson presented his “Hot Dog Roaster Rack,” and partners Amy Sullivan and Reilly Finarty (FIN-art-ee) presented their “Hot Tub” solar heated livestock waterer. Each student was presented a check and a $500 scholarship to the engineering program at either U of I or Iowa State.
