Central’s offense was working one game and gone the next in an Iowa Conference softball split with Simpson on Saturday. The Dutch won game one, 11 – 3; Central got out to a 7 – 0 lead after inning number three and didn’t look back. Seven different players for Central had multiple hits, including Abbey Strajack who was 2-for-3 with three RBI’s, and Kaitlyn Matzen who pounded out three hits and drove in two. A late home run by pitcher Abbie Van Vleet gave Simpson the nightcap win in game two, 2 – 1. Central had nine hits for the game, but could not capitalize except for a two-out RBI single in the third by Jordan Overland, who went a perfect 3-for-3 in the game. Central’s record stands at 27 – 7 and they are 7 – 3 in league play, leaving them a full game behind Coe at the top of the leaderboard. Central will play host to the Kohawks in a big showdown in Pella on Tuesday, a doubleheader which can be heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.
