It took some battling and a close-call late, but the Central softball team split a tough doubleheader with a very good Luther squad, the latter of which put Coach George Wares up to the 1,000-win plateau for his career. The Dutch dropped the opener 4 – 3, as they could only muster five hits off of the Norse’s Girvan, who pitched a complete game. Central held a 6 – 4 lead going into the seventh of game two, but a one-out home run and a pair of two-out singles gave the Dutch a scare, but eventually they held on to win 6 – 5. Central is now 23 – 5 overall and 3 – 1 in league play. Storm Lake is Central’s next destination today, for a doubleheader against Buena Vista starting at 3:00 p.m.
