The term “runs coming at a premium” is usually used in pitcher’s duels. This, however, was not the case on Saturday’s regular season doubleheader finale between Central and Wartburg. The Dutch and Knights split the twinbill and the series; Central lost game one 9 – 8 but took the nightcap, 13 – 9. Wartburg came out hot in the first contest, scoring all nine runs in the first two innings, but Central clawed back in it and had several chances to win. The Dutch outhit the Knights 18 – 9, but stranded 13 runners on base. Andrew O’Toole, Robbie Rushing and Adam Ariola all had three hits in game one. Central finishes the regular season 25 – 14 and they will begin their run towards an Iowa Conference title and a berth in the NCAA national tournament this Thursday in Cedar Rapids.
