Putting together a nice string of wins to close out their 2014 regular season, the Central baseball team became a force to be reckoned with as they approached the Iowa Conference tournament. Heading into the final series of the season with Wartburg, the Dutch and the Knights were battling for the second seed in the league tournament and a very important first round bye. Unfortunately for Central, they could only salvage a split and fell a game out of that second slot. That fact appeared to cost the Dutch in the end as they looked gassed by the time they got back to the championship game in the loser’s bracket to face Buena Vista, who won in seven innings, 10 – 0. Coach Adam Stevens says it’s a tough situation to be in, which makes getting a first round bye all the more important. The Dutch finished second in the league tournament and had a 28 – 16 overall record. They also graduated a boatload of seniors and will bring a young team to the diamond in 2015.
