Knoxville City Council Considers Center-Street Parking

As Streetscape work continues, parking along Knoxville’s square can be tricky. City Manager Harold Stewart tells KNIA KRLS News that recently, a business-owner proposed center-street parking, in which cars would park in the center of the street, creating a cul-de-sac type of drive on affected streets. The City Council elected to keep parking as it is, for a number of reasons. Concerns included the ongoing need for access by large construction equipment both for Streetscape and the clocktower restoration project and for the safety of pedestrians. Another concern was that the current parking stripes would need to be removed, then painted in the center; and all for a temporary fix.
