The Knoxville City Council earlier this week approved some more changes to the ball field at Young’s Park. Earlier this spring, City crews modified the field so it can be used for both softball and baseball teams by lengthening the baselines. City Manager Harold Stewart tells KNIA KRLS News that Council approved a “Green Monster” – which baseball fans may recognize as the claim to fame of Boston’s Fenway Park. Knoxville’s will be a 20-foot-high green fence in right field. Stewart says the primary reason is to improve safety for when Knoxville heavy-hitters slug one over the fence…onto Highway 14, and possibly into traffic. New foul poles will be added as well, having been repurposed from poles removed from downtown. We’ll have more from Stewart, talking about this week’s Council meeting, Friday on Let’s Talk Knoxville.
