Knoxville Hospital & Clinics

The forecast is for a tough allergy season, but sufferers have several options for relief. Theresa Glesener, Allergy Specialist with Knoxville Hospital and Clinics, says trying to minimize exposure or taking over-the-counter medications are two options. She says there are two forms of immunotherapy also.

Sublingual is a method where you put drops under your tongue; but, she says insurance does not currently cover this as it is not FDA approved.

Glesener says the most effective method is by taking immunotherapy injections. This therapy, over time, desensitizes your body to allergens, and eventually your body won’t see those irritants as a threat. If you are interested in immunotherapy, contact your provider. Glesener says the ENT Clinic of Iowa provider comes to Knoxville on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.
