The Des Moines National Weather Service office conducted a severe weather call and webinar today to discuss the severe weather expected to impact the state. A strong storm system is expected to move through the state this evening, with the potential for tornadoes, hail, and damaging wind. The system is expected to impact the state in two waves. The first is moving through the northern half of the state this afternoon, and the second wave of severe weather is expected to intensify and develop later this afternoon and persist into the evening hours. The threat of severe storms is expected to diminish rapidly at sunset. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on alert and monitoring the latest weather information.
