After giving up a lead-off home run in the top half of the inning, the Pella baseball team responded with four of their own in the bottom of the fourth and held on to beat Fairfield last night, 4 – 1. Austin Titman threw a 1-2-3 seventh in relief of Grant Judkins to earn the save for the Little Dutch in their season opener, which Coach Jesse Jablonski says felt a lot like a tournament game. Jablonski adds that his team’s ability to immediately respond to opponents putting up numbers on the scoreboard could be a common theme this season. Pella is 1 – 0 to begin the season and they are back on the diamond tonight to take on Bondurant-Farrar. Over on the softball diamond, the Lady Dutch look for their first win of the season against Lynnville-Sully. You can hear that contest live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser on the call. Pregame coverage starts at 7:15 p.m. with first pitch at 7:30.
