Not the way a lot of people wanted to see it end, but Pella High’s girls’ soccer team is now just one step away from the Class 2A state soccer tournament, with their 1 – 0, one half win over Newton last night. Because of the storms that rolled in, the game was called after halftime concluded as lightning came through and referees determined the radar was too ominous to try risking it any further. Kiara Bradley had the goal for the Lady Dutch. Coach Mark Howard tells KNIA/KRLS Sports neither team wanted the game to be decided by 40 minutes of soccer, but the state told them the rules were put out for a reason. Pella moves on to play Cedar Rapids Xavier in a rematch from last year’s state semifinal for this year’s regional final and a berth in the state tournament this Monday.
