Five runs was the magic number for Newton last night in their pair of wins over Pella Christian in conference play. The Eagles’ softball team dropped a 5 – 2 decision; Tessa Howerzyl had a double and three other Eagles singled in the contest. Pella Christian baseball was blanked 5 – 0 by the Cardinals. Coltin Collins and Josh Rolffs each had two hits in the loss, which drops their record to 6 – 14, and softball is now 10 – 9. Both teams will play Oskaloosa next on Wednesday.
