Representative Greg Heartsill provided a presentation on safety signage at highway intersections at this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Heartsill says the Iowa DOT is willing to place signs or beacons at dangerous intersections in the county, such as the one at Highway 14 and G76, south of Knoxville, where earlier this year, two semis collided. Heartsill says the beacons are valued at $3000 each, and are run on solar-powered batteries which operate for 3 to 5 years. He says the DOT is asking that Marion County provide maintenance on the signage, and replacement if damaged. The Supervisors asked Heartsill, Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, and County Engineer Tyler Christian to discuss the project, and closed discussion, without action. KNIA KRLS News will follow up as details become official.
