She put up a good fight, but it was two-and-done for Pella Christian’s Claire Van Weelden at the Class 1A state singles’ tennis tournament yesterday. Van Weelden lost in straight sets to Stephanie Willis of West Burlington – Notre Dame, 6 – 1 and 6 – 1. In the consolation bracket, she was able to get a win in the first set, 6 – 1, before dropping the next two 3 – 6 and 1 – 0 (10). The meet marked the end of the season for the Pella Christian tennis squad.
