Joe Wright, with Knoxville’s Regional Livestock Market, tells KNIA KRLS News that the 2014 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship, or WLAC, is coming to Knoxville this weekend. Wright says this is the Super Bowl of auctioneering, and it is an honor for Knoxville to be selected for the event which covers the entire US and Canada. Wright says the auctioneers know the value of the livestock and they know true price discovery. Contestants must be 18 years old, and are judged on the clarity of their auction chant, vocal quality, ability to catch bids and conduct the sale, and whether or not the judge would hire the auctioneer for their own livestock market. The event is open to the public.

The Saturday, June 21, auctioneering competition at Knoxville Regional Livestock Market begins at 8 a.m. (CST) and is a live sale where the contestants auction cattle to actual bidders in the seats.
