Pella Christian baseball and softball came away unscathed from the likes of Grinnell last night. The Eagles’ baseball team won 8 – 6 and 8 – 1 in their doubleheader with the Tigers. Jason Holwerda had a two-run triple, Coltin Collins an RBI double, and Josh Rolffs threw seven effective innings on the mound in the nightcap for the Eagles. Pella Christian softball stifled Grinnell’s offense in a 5 – 1, 7 – 2 sweep on the dirt. Tessa Howerzyl and Taylor Hartson had two hits and an RBI each in game two, while freshman Natalie Vos earned the win, pitching a complete game, striking out seven, walking just one and allowing six hits. Coach Karen Harrill says that though it did rain on Saturday during a scheduled practice, her pitchers still got some work done and it showed last night. Eagles’ baseball improves to 10 – 20 on the season while the girls finish up their regular season schedule with a 14 – 18 record. The boys take on Des Moines Christian tonight and the softball team will play either B-G-M or Cardinal of Eldon in round two of the Class 2A regional tournament at home next on Wednesday.
