The Knoxville Noon Kiwanis are teaming up with Kiwanis International and UNICEF on The Eliminate Project, an effort to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus around the world.
The disease kills a newborn baby every 9 minutes, and can be prevented by a series of shots that cost approximately $1.80. Noon Kiwanis member Kurt Schwanebeck said the group received an unexpected gift recently. After hearing a presentation about the topic, Schwanebeck’s seven year old grandson Jared Klootwyk saved his pennies and contributed over $40 to the cause because it saddened him to hear of the babies dying. If you would like to contribute, contact any member of the Knoxville Noon Kiwanis.
