Hard to believe it has been over eight months since we last talked Pella High football, but there is an important game coming up for two members that proudly represent the “green” of the Little Dutch next weekend. It’s the 42nd installment of the Shrine Bowl Game, and Little Dutch head coach, Jay McKinstrey, will head up the south squad, with Nathan Clayberg there as a member of that team. Last year, the game raised $80,000 for Shriner’s Hospitals, and all of the athletes involved take the entire week leading up to the contest to prepare and practice. In addition to the camp, days are set aside for team bonding and even a “mini-camp” for children that seek care from Shriner’s. Clayberg says he’s looking forward to the entire week. Clayberg says that by “true gift,” Coach McKinstrey means that it’s a gift with nothing expected in return. With the amount of talent on the field next Saturday, all 92 players will be giving another true gift of a fantastic football game to the many people in attendance. The game takes place in Cedar Falls at the UNI Dome on July 26 at 4:00 p.m.
