Pet Safety Reminders as Warm Weather Approaches

Posted By News On July 21, 2014 @ 5:51 am In Today’s Local News | Comments Disabled

The “dog days” of summer are fast approaching. Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri-County Veterinary Clinic says that it’s important to monitor a pet’s health during hot summer days, especially when it has to be left outdoors. He says exposure to temperatures in the 90s with high humidity is enough to cause symptoms of heat stress and even heat stroke in pets. He reminds owners to provide shade and to change water frequently if a pet has to be left outside during peak heating hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dr. Yoder says to avoid leaving animals in parked cars for any reason, even with the windows cracked. Pets and their outdoor exercise habits should be carefully monitored as well. We’ll have more summer pet safety tips with Dr. Tim Yoder during Let’s Talk Pella on Thursday.
