Two battle-tested teams in Twin Cedars and LeMars Gehlen Catholic meet in the Class 1A state baseball semifinals this afternoon. The number one ranked Sabers will be putting their undefeated season on the line against the Jays, who, at least on paper, appear to be very similar to one another. It is not known who Gehlen Catholic will be throwing on the mound for them today; the Jays feature two sharp senior hurlers who have pitched a majority of the postseason, and Sabers’ Coach Matt Miller says whoever it is will give his hitters at the plate a real challenge. Saber fans making their way to the game may want to get to the park early, as the Twin Cedars Athletic Booster Club, the Knoxville Fareway and the Knoxville McDonald’s will be sponsoring another Saber Tailgate at the north end of the parking lot. Chef Dave Roby will be cooking up pulled pork sandwiches with chips starting at noon. You can hear the play-by-play of today’s game live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA and KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser and Jim Dingeman on the call. Pregame coverage starts at around 1:40 p.m. with first pitch at two.
