The City of Pella is increasing septage rates after passing an ordinance at the most recent City Council meeting. The city is raising rates to $100 per 1000 gallons for those who live within the area and $200 for those who live outside the designated area. The previous rate was $46.20. Finance Director Corey Goodenow says the rate increase is a result of many people from outside of the area bringing septage to Pella because the rates were low compared to other area cities. He says the new rates are still competitive with other cities, but should help lower the stress on the treatment plant. The next city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15th.
