By a unanimous vote, the Knoxville City Council voted Monday to cease operations on the Downtown Streetscape project for the season, despite the objections of some business owners in the construction area, who would just like to see their portion of the project finished.

Sundance Realty’s Kathy Caviness would like to see the Robinson Street portion of the project done this year and avoid the possibility of another water main break.

City Manager Harold Stewart, however, communicated that the construction company is recommending to cease operations after the completion of Third Street and is already planning to divert manpower to other projects around the state.

Council member David Roozeboom stated it’s time to take a breather from the project and restart early next spring.
