This week, the Pella Police Department received a report from a local business who said they received a phone call from a person claiming to be a representative of an area utility provider.
The representative claimed that the power and gas would be shut off because their bill had not been paid. The representative asked for a credit card number and asked for money to wired to an address. Utility companies do not collect on delinquent accounts in this fashion, and they publicly list numbers for business. Police remind residents to never give out that type of information over the phone and to always discuss delinquent account with the utility company directly using their official lines of communications.
