The game felt closer than it was, but Twin Cedars walked away with an 8 – 2 victory over the defending Class 1A state champions, Newman Catholic in Saturday’s tournament final. The Sabers scored first in the second thanks to smart base running from Hunter Embray and a wild pitch. They would extend that lead to 5 – 0 before the Knights would get a run on the board. Otis Roby was in trouble often, but used timely strikeouts and leaned on his defense to get out of most jams and stranded nine Knights on base. Twin Cedars celebrates as the Class 1A state champions, the first in school history, and they ended the year with an unblemished 36 – 0 record. The Sabers will lose eight seniors from their varsity squad for 2015. For more pictures from the state championship game, look below.
