One game. Seven innings, give or take. However you boil it down, that is all that’s left in the 2014 Class 1A baseball season. The two teams left, Twin Cedars and Newman Catholic, have defeated everyone that has stood in their way up to this point. For the Sabers, it’s the first time in school history in any sport that they have reached a state championship game. The Knights are the defending Class 1A champions, and bring back less than half of the starters that won it all last year. Otis Roby will make the start for the Sabers on a full week’s rest, and Coach Matt Miller says Roby has improved since he faced the Knights in the state semifinals last year, and he’ll need to do many of the same things today that he did almost exactly a year ago. Miller adds the game could come down to doing the small things well. Today’s championship game will be broadcast live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA and KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser and Jim Dingeman on the call. Pregame coverage starts at 11:35 a.m. with first pitch scheduled for noon. There is also another Saber Tailgate going on at the north end of Principal Park. Gourmet chef, Dave Roby and his staff will be cooking up barbecue pulled pork sandwiches and chips starting at 10:00 a.m. and going until 11.
