A Knoxville Police Officer killed in the line of duty almost eight decades ago, is finally being recognized.

Night Officer Marion Albert “Bert” Conrey was attacked by an intoxicated couple on St. Patrick’s Day 1938 after he confronted them for being disorderly. He succumbed to his injuries two weeks after the incident.

A 23-year veteran of the Knoxville Police Department, he was survived by his wife and eight children.

The story of Conrey’s death has only been recently remembered. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada is working to get Conrey’s name added to the list on the law enforcement memorial walls in Iowa and Washington D.C. and has been able to have him added to the Officer Down Memorial Page, an online site that honors fallen law enforcement members.
