2014 Emergency Preparedness Month
September is National Emergency Preparedness Month and while some maybe prepared for threats that can be seen, sometimes forgotten are the threats that are unseen, such as biological threats.

Marion County Public Health plays a key role in responding to biological and chemical threats that can occur naturally or from some other type of incident, according to Public Health Director Kim Dorn.

“When people think of public health they usually think about a biological type incident,” Dorn recently told KNIA/KRLS News. “We have kind of taken an all-hazards type of approach now as we work with our coalition partners. It’s just all about biologicals for us. It’s more of a comprehensive approach.”

Emergency Response Local Planner Teresa Higginbotham recommends people do what they can to prepare for such events by checking out information on the Marion County Public Health website, at http://www.marionph.org/programs/emergency.html.
