A late and furious rally by the Central men’s soccer team fell just short of an upset against a number-13 ranked Loras on Saturday, 3 – 2. The DuHawks had a 3 – 0 lead with under 15 minutes to go in the second half, before a Mark Hentschel penalty kick and Dennis Forrest goal gave Central some new life. The Dutch women fell in the final seconds of the second half in a game that looked to be going to overtime, by a final of 2 – 1 in favor of Loras. The DuHawks’ Claire Murphy knocked in the game-winner from a corner kick with exactly one second showing on the clock. Central’s men are now 2 – 8 overall, the women are 4 – 4 – 2, and each begin league play at 0 – 1. The Dutch will host Coe this week for their conference matches; the men play on Tuesday and the women have their match on Wednesday.
