Area bicyclists looking to get a few more rides in before summer officially winds down will have a chance to enter a unique race this weekend.

The Dirty Wooden Shoe cyclocross race takes place Saturday and Sunday with events throughout the day at the South Overlook Area at Lake Red Rock. Event Organizer Jacob Oyentells KNIA/KRLS news that the event features cyclocross races, a unique form of bicycle racing that requires riders to go through a short course featuring a variety of terrain including pavement, grass, steep hills and obstacles. In some instances racers will have to dismount and run a short distance with their bicycles. Races last between 30 minutes and an hour depending on the category and age level of racers. Races will begin at 10 am with the masters category racers and conclude at 2:30 pm with junior racers on both Saturday and Sunday.
