The Marion County Board of Review and Pella Corporation recently ended a dispute over the value of property to an appeals board.

The Board of Review valued two parcels of land, one owned by Pella Corporation and the other by Trigen, at $24.3 million in 2013. The properties serve as Pella Corp’s headquarters, manufacturing and warehousing facilities. Pella Corp. protested the county’s assessment at the local board of review, and then appealed the local board of review’s determination to the State of Iowa Property Tax Assessment Appeal Board. Pella Corp initially proposed various values from different appraisers, and ultimately proposed a final value of $6.66 million, approximately $17 million dollars less than the County’s appraisal. The Appeal Board’s decision reduced the amounts based on data provided by another one of the testifying independent fee appraisers, to roughly $21.5 million for the two properties, which was approximately the same value assessed in 2012. Marion County was represented by Assistant County Attorney Ben Hayek and Pella Corp was represented by Dennis Ogden.
