Heavy rainfall this week had area streams overflowing their banks and has the county nearing the record for the wettest October on record.

Rainfall on Monday and Tuesday had the English Creek south of Knoxville topping its banks. Cedar Creek’s water reached 18 feet, rising more than 12 feet in less than 24 hours. According to the National Weather Service, 3.2 inches of rain fell in Knoxville and 3.61 in Pella, with more than 4 inches reported approximately 4 miles north of Pella. This week’s rainfall has the total for the month approaching a record, nearing the previous record of 4.57 inches set in 1927.
